Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Tufts University. During AY 2024-25 I will be a Stanton Nuclear Security Visiting Research Scholar at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC). I am also a Nuclear Security Fellow at Yale University’s Jackson School of Global Affairs. In my research I examine the domestic sources of interstate conflict, expanding on existing theories of democratic accountability and political representation as they pertain to crisis signaling and bargaining. In other work I trace the effects of messaging and consultation on crisis behavior and political hawkishness. My research is supported by the Stanton Foundation, the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, the Yale South Asian Studies Council, International Security Studies at Yale, and the Institution for Social and Policy Studies. I received my PhD in Political Science from Yale University in 2022. I grew up in Islamabad, Pakistan. I can be reached at fahd.humayun@tufts.edu and you can follow me on X / Twitter.
